Making Your Braided Rug Stay Flat

How To Eliminate Curls And Pucks

Braided rugs are prone to curling sometimes, especially at the edges. This problem can be caused by a number of things, including poor
construction quality, excessive dampness and incorrect storage. It can also occur if the rug's braids are woven too tight. Fortunately, this condition can be easily corrected by following these simple instructions.
The basic technique to flatten a braided rug is to increase the rug's moisture level slightly and then use pressure against a hard flat surface to align the braids to their original position.

The easiest way to do this is to find some heavy objects that are not going to be harmed by water. Ideal examples would be cast iron pots or pans, bricks or even a clothes iron. If you plan on using some heavy books you will need a plastic sheet to place over the rug to act as a barrier otherwise the books may be damaged.

Place the rug on a hard flat surface and using a mister dampen the rug around the edges. Do not use too much as this will only cause the rug to become water logged. Now place the weights around the edges of the rug where you just applied the misting.

Wait for the rug to dry completely then remove the weights and check if the rug lies flat on it's own. Depending on the rug's material and the extent of the curling you may need to repeat the process several times.
